Subject: Msg from Patricia Yandle on D10 Bell Times
Dear Parents of District 10 Students,
In response to several inquiries, I am providing the following
information to keep you informed regarding the discussion of bell times
for District 10 schools for the 2007-08 school year.
As a result of the significant amount of research on the sleep needs of
teenagers and the negative impact too little sleep has on teens'
academic achievement, First Student was asked to investigate the
possibility of a later start time for our high school students in
District 10 and District 4. Recently, the First Student
representatives provided Associate Superintendents six scenarios for
consideration. The District 10 options are available for download
from our web site:
D10-projected-bells.xls
Associate Superintendents were then asked to communicate those options
to principals and to ask principals to receive feedback regarding the
options from their SIC Chairs and/or PTA Presidents. We are in
the process of that information-gathering stage now.
No decisions have been made regarding bell times for 07-08. If
you would like to share your opinion about the options under
consideration, please contact your school principal, SIC Chair, and/or
PTA President to do so. Each principal will then
communicate with his/her Associate Superintendent regarding the
feedback they have received.
I hope this information is helpful to you. Once a final decision
is made, schools will communicate with their families. Thank you
for your interest in all of the students of District 10!
Sincerely,
Patricia B. Yandle
Associate Superintendent, District 10/4 Secondary Schools
