To the Friends of St. Andrews District #10:

This January we were excited to share with the West Ashley Community a set of plans under development to create "areas of focus" for West Ashley Middle School and St. Andrews Middle School.

Both schools will continue to cover all the core academic areas as outlined in the CCSD coherent curriculum, and both will adopt a single-gender classroom model of instruction.  But SAMS will focus on mathematics, while WAMS will feature communication and technology.  There was a nice article about these options in the January 15 Post & Courier.

We are now pleased to announce that District #10 parents will have the opportunity to choose which of these schools is better for their child, regardless of the attendance zone in which they reside.  Bus transportation will be provided out of zone for a limited number.

Beginning yesterday, the parents of all 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students currently attending or zoned to attend either WAMS or SAMS should have received a form to complete and return by Wednesday, June 4.  This form has a series of check-boxes for the parent to indicate his choice of middle school for the 2008-09 year.  Copies of these forms are downloadable from the links below.

Please complete your school request form and return it promptly!  We hope to seat every child in the school that fits his needs, and transport every child to the school of his choice safely and efficiently.  But we cannot offer any guarantees at present.  A lottery will be held if necessary.

The parents and faculties of both WAMS and SAMS are to be commended for their excellent efforts bringing these exciting opportunities to our community.  We're looking forward to a great 2008-09!
