To the Friends of St Andrews District 10:
We're pleased to report that EIGHT
of our schools have been recognized this month by the South Carolina
Education Oversight Committee for their special effort to close the
achievement gap among students of differing economic, racial, and
ethnic groups:
- Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary
- C. E. Williams Middle School for Creative and Scientific Arts
- Drayton Hall Elementary
- Oakland Elementary
- Orange Grove Elementary Charter
- St. Andrews School of Math & Science
- Springfield Elementary
- Stono Park Elementary
The EOC bases its annual recognition on three criteria: (1)
Enrollment of at least thirty students from the economic, racial, and
ethnic groups that have historically underachieved in our state, (2)
performance of the identified group meeting or exceeding the 75th
percentile of students statewide in either English or mathematics, and
(3) AYP requirements met for all students and for the identified group.
Of 866 elementary and middle schools considered by the EOC, 135 were
recognized statewide for "bridging the gap" earlier this month.
Among the 20 CCSD schools so honored were ALL SEVEN of our regular
elementary schools here in constituent district #10 - a D10 sweep!
Congratulations are due to the teachers, administrators, students and
parents of all eight schools listed above, as well as to the other 12
Charleston County schools recognized by the EOC in 2007.
Keep up the good work, everybody!
Rob Dillon
(for the D10 Constituent Board)
