To the Friends of St. Andrews District 10:
In an effort to provide
additional opportunities for our middle school students through public
school choice options, the principals of St. Andrew's Middle School and
West Ashley Middle School are working collaboratively to identify
specific themes or areas of focus from which students and their
families can choose. This initiative, while in the early planning
stages, would allow parents and students to select which of the two
schools they would attend based on the schools' individual themes and
students' interests and strengths. Mrs. Coker and Mr. Bragg are
meeting with their faculties, School Improvement Councils, and parents
to receive input and suggestions regarding this possibility.
At St. Andrews Middle School, a
proposal has been drafted which would offer special mathematics
electives to single-gender classes. An informational meeting
about this exciting plan has been scheduled for this Tuesday evening at
7:00. Everybody is invited!
There is much work to be done and
many details not yet examined. Please remember these schools are
only at the exploration phase at this point. Thank you for your
interest and for your support of the middle schools West of the Ashley!
